GDPR Support in Latest Versions of BECS and BBE

BECS and BBE, new functionality included for GDPR compliance

In the recent BECS 3.14.0 and BBE 2.1.0 releases we have added a number of functions to support GDPR. The main features are:

  1. An operator can easily remove sensitive end-user data. By using the GUI or APIs in these products, the operator can swiftly remove data when an end-customer has requested to be forgotten once their service(s) has terminated.
  2. The newly introduced Person Data Report in BBE collects current and historical information about end-customers and can be presented in an organized format if requested by an end-customer.
  3. For operators using registration via portal service, new functionality in the Service Selection Portal (SSP) API allows an operator to choose whether sensitive end-user data is stored in the BBE database or is only relayed to a Service Provider.

What is General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)?

The GDPR is a comprehensive regulation that unifies data protection in all EU countries. It will directly apply in all EU member states from 25 May 2018. The GDPR has a very broad territorial scope and will apply to any organization that manages the personal data of individuals who are based in the EU, regardless where the organization is registered. The GDPR requires organizations to implement reasonable data protection measures to protect the personal data of consumers and employees against data loss or exposure. To achieve that goal, the law regulates all areas related to data management and processing, from obtaining user consent to setting up company-wide data protection practices and handling data breach incidents.

PacketFront Software and Keypro cooperate to automate passive and active networks

Today, Keypro Oy and PacketFront Software announce a cooperation between the companies to significantly improve the integration between passive network inventory and active network orchestration. The solution is based on Keypro’s KeyCom and PacketFront Software’s BBE and BECS products.

The combined solution brings radical time and quality improvements. It also makes the whole process from the passive infrastructure planning to the end-customer service activation an integrated and automated workflow. The improved process is faster and also reduces the risk of human errors.

Connecting passive network information to BBE’s customer data enables the solution to automatically reserve, verify and document the required passive network resources.

Timo Kuusela, VP Marketing and Sales, PacketFront Software says: ”Our first reference customer Karis Telefon has proven that network build-out and operations can be automated to a very high degree. This doesn’t only reduce the total OPEX, but also benefits end customers who experience fast service response and high quality from the operator.”

Toni Paila, CEO, Keypro says: ”Keypro continuously seeks for novel ways of improving the business of network owners. Our core strategy is to achieve this through strategic partnerships. Now, this collaboration with PacketFront truly shows the level of efficiency that automated network orchestration with our KeyCom network inventory can achieve.”

Patrik Gustafsson, CTO, Karis Telefon says: ”Integration has significantly reduced the time and effort needed in operations due to automated processes. For example, with pre-connected circuit to customer’s address, a customer can enjoy services in minutes after ordering.”

Join us at FTTH Conference 2018 in Valencia, Spain. Karis Telefon will tell more about the solution in Workshop ‘Fast, efficient and reliable FTTH roll out. Hand-on experiences from the Nordic region’ on the 13th of February. You will also find us in exhibition booths B14 and B21.

PacketFront Software enters data center market

PacketFront Software announced further development of the BECS network automation solution to include data center management.

Even if the spinning up of servers is today a highly automated process, the network infrastructure connecting servers is still mainly managed manually. BECS can now automate even this part of the process providing the staff operating data centers the capabilities to activate / deactivate services end-to-end in seconds instead of days and weeks.

“Entering the fast growing data center market is a strategic decision for us. We have high expectations that our investment in this sector will bear first fruits during 2017 helping us to further accelerate our already high growth.” says Jan Kettnaker, CEO of PacketFront Software.

PacketFront Software BECS chosen for Fibia’s network

Fibia P/S, the merger of NRGi and SEAS-NVE fiber operations, has decided to use PacketFront Software’s BECS OSS platform to manage the network.

BECS enables a harmonization of the management of the different technologies and vendors used in the network. This provides Fibia with tools to rationalize the operations and to streamline the service offering throughout the network.

Fibia’s FTTH deployment consists of approximately 160.000 ports using Point-to-Point and GPON technologies from companies such as Cisco, Alcatel-Lucent, Waystream, Genexis, Icotera and Tilgin. The project focus has been to migrate NRGi’s Alcatel-Lucent GPON and Cisco 4500 based network to BECS and utilize BECS ACS functionality to manage ONT’s and CPE’s via the TR-069 protocol.

“Fibia is leading the Danish FTTH market consolidation and is becoming a major player within this segment. We are pleased that Fibia decided to use BECS as a key tool in this consolidation”, says Jan Kettnaker, CEO PacketFront Software.

“SEAS-NVE has used BECS since 2006. When we faced the decision on how to take care of the Fibia network, BECS was an easy choice to make due to its excellent reliability and flexibility track record”, says Ole Højgaard Christensen, Technical Manager at Fibia.

PacketFront Software automates Accessbolaget’s MPLS network

Accessbolaget AB, a new Swedish nationwide wholesale access network provider, has selected PacketFront Software’s BECS and BBE systems to deliver an end-to-end network configuration and service activation solution for their Juniper and Adva based MPLS VPN network. The solution is delivered by NetNordic, PacketFront Software’s Nordic partner.

“Accessbolaget has brought something completely new and innovative to the Swedish telecom market, providing independent Carrier Ethernet capacity services in cooperation with the widespread city networks. It has previously been very difficult for operators to utilize these city networks efficiently due to lack of single interface and infrastructure, something that Accessbolaget has brought to the market. We are excited to be a part of this game changing event”, says Jan Kettnaker, CEO PacketFront Software.

“We selected the system after a thorough evaluation process. We chose BECS and BBE due to the purpose-build product, which gave us an off-the-shelf solution. At the same time the high scripting capabilities on top of the base product gave us a possibility to achieve a solution that is tailored for our specific requirements”, says Jan Werne, CEO at Accessbolaget.

PacketFront Software receives a Vinnova grant to accelerate SDN and NFV development

PacketFront Software, the leading multi-vendor network automation provider, has received a grant to accelerate the development of solutions supporting Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV). The grant was awarded by Vinnova, the Swedish innovations agency. The project will run for two years with the objective to accelerate the development of PacketFront Software’s orchestration solution for SDN and NFV.

The transformation from hardware-dependent legacy systems to new software based SDN and NFV networks will change the core of how telecom operators operate their networks. PacketFront Software is uniquely positioned to help operators in this process by enabling a smooth and gradual migration path to SDN and NFV. This is done by using PacketFront Software’s BECS Network Management system’s capability to simultaneously orchestrate both legacy and SDN/NFV networks.
